Does anybody realize that it's almost Christmas time? I am fully aware that it's more than 3 and one half months away, but they sometimes start the seasonal promotions and sales advertising around mid November, which makes it a little less than 2 and a half months away! Woohoo!
Strictly speaking, as a Buddhist, I shouldn't really care when Jesus was born. In fact, I think I've read somewhere that Jesus wasn't actually born on the 25th of December. But regardless of this, there's no denying that Christmas time is wonderful. Instead of having Jack Frost nipping at your nose, over here in Sri Lanka the hot tropical climate becomes somewhat more tolerable. The general feeling of gaiety, mixed with holidays, songs portraying a world full of love and peace, feel-good Christmas movies, Christmas cake and Christmas parties make this time of year much anticipated, in my book. Especially when the New Year follows almost immediately, it gives me, Baldy, Sloth and sometimes Hikka the opportunity to engage in reckless firework-lighting, since practically all the other infantile idiots in the neighborhood are at it as well. I hope this post doesn't detract from my usually demonic outlook. |
