The trip to Koggala was exhilarating to say the least. I knew the dudes of the clan were fun to hang out with, but I kept putting off joining them on these long traverses because, simply put, I hate traversing. I only accepted the invitation this time, quite at the last moment, because they simply wouldn't accept no for an answer.

Strangely enough, the journey itself was quite pleasurable...with a decent bottle of old reserve helping us on our way. The highlight of the of the day was when the half_twin saw a bunch of prawn fishing nets in a row and exclaimed "Machan, they're building another bloody bridge!". Seriously, it would have been much funnier to have been there and heard it yourself. It was my first glimpse of his stupidity that would be the cause for much amusement later on.

The hotel was decent enough...frankly, it was much nicer than I had pictured. The beach was so bloody marvellous, it was like heaven after having trudged through the hideous Wellawatte and Dehiwala beaches for most of my life. Having said that, I must say that those latterly mentioned beaches aren't that bad really, if you removed all the people, the debris and those utterly, completely hideous sewage canals that flow in to the sea in those areas.

I also discovered that I suck at beach volleyball.

Incidentally, I may have been as thick as a whale omlette, but I have only now discovered the joys of snorkeling, beside figuring out what the bloody hell a snorkel was used for in the first place. And to think I once owned a very good and expensive tempered-glass mask with matching snorkel when I was young, only to have utterly ruined it by playing Darth Vader with my lightsaber-stick-wielding cousins. I even played catch-the-rubber hose with my dog at one point. The utter wastefulness of youth.

And by the way, if ever you decide to go for a full-body herbal massage, ALWAYS wear your underwear beneath the towel. It could get very embarrassing if you don't.

All that said, it was a great weekend. Full of fun, laughter, and good old fashioned camaraderie with plenty of male bonding. I don't think I'll have any problems saying yes the next time.
